ALEXIS, NC – Boy Scouts and Cub Scout Webelos from Troop 89 in Alexis learned a great deal about rockets and jet propulsion on Sunday when the group took the sky with rockets that they had built.

The project teaches the young men about the science and physics of jet propulsion.

Building model rockets is also part of the Boy Scout Space Exploration Merit Badge where scouts learn about such parts of a rocket like the body tube, engine mount, fins, igniter systems, lunch lugs, nose cones, payloads and recovery systems as well as the rocket engine.
