NC - On December 11, 2006, the New Hanover County Grand Jury heard evidence from the State Bureau of Investigation and prosecutors regarding an incident that occurred on December 1, 2006 with Deputy Christopher Long and other law enforcement officials. Despite his multiple efforts, Deputy Long was refused and denied an opportunity to testify before the Grand Jury.
After carefully examining the evidence, the Grand Jury found that there was no probable cause for any criminal charge against Christopher Long. According to the NCFOP, the Grand Jury should be and their decision should be respected.
During this holiday season, the Fraternal Order of Police will be raising funds to support Christopher Long and his family in these difficult times.
The North Carolina Fraternal Order of Police is a statewide association of law enforcement officers. We are a constituent part of the National Fraternal Order of Police, with over three hundred thousand members. FOP works throughout the state to promote more effective law enforcement and better protection for North Carolina law enforcement officers and their families.
The law enforcement profession is the most dangerous civilian occupation in the state and our nation. Law enforcement officers live in a dangerous split-second decision making world where their lives are constantly threatened. There is an added and even higher danger imposed on officers who serve on emergency response teams, like former Deputy Sheriff Christopher Long.
NCFOP urges all New Hanover County citizens to show their support, respect and appreciation for Christopher Long and all of the law enforcement officers who have become unfairly accused.
